Manufacturing Myanmar 2014 was established to serve as a gateway for international companies to get a firm foothold on the budding industry in Myanmar. With the recent suspension of sanctions, and recognising Myanmar's substantial latent demand for manufacturing tools, technology and knowledge, Manufacturing Myanmar 2014 will be the first opportunity for local companies to meet international brands, and for exporters to begin establishing themselves in this new, but substantial market.

Thilawa Special Economic Zone, to be completed by 2015 is located in the outskirts of Yangon, is one to look out for. Japan Government will provide low interest loans to Myanmar to build surrounding infrastructure like road, garden and facilities near this SEZ and beyond. Japan companies in power plant, automobile space parts and textile & garments, manufacturing to name a few including OSHIMAYA Company, Marubeni Corporation, ASMO Co.,Ltd, JFE Engineering Corporation and METACC Manufacturing Ltd are setting up manufacturing base there. Sharing parts of the SEZ include companies from China, Malaysia and Singapore. 37 blocks of the huge project are shared among these country companies. There will be at least 500 local and foreign companies to facilitate the project.
