Coffee varieties in Peru
Coffee is developed relatively easily from 600 to 1800 meters above sea level in almost all geographic regions of Peru. However, 75% of coffee trees are over 1000 m.a.s.l.
The diversity of climate, soil, rainfall and sunlight combinations constitute an appropriate setting for coffee crops. Peruvian coffees are Coffea arabica with different flavor profiles, aroma and acidity. The varieties that are cultivated are: Typica (70%), Caturra (20%) and others (10%), 90% of Peruvian coffee grows in the shade, mainly for legumes, at an average density of 2000 plants per hectare.
According to current trends, some groups of Peruvian farmers have specialized and work in organic and other specialty coffees, recognized for its distinctive profile and features as cup quality, balanced acidity and flavor that fit very well in the microclimates, temperature and precise height. (1400 - 1800 m.a.s.l.).
