Introduction
Co-Hosted by CIMMYT, The Indian Council on Agricultural Research (ICAR), and the Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA), the 50 Pact is the culmination of conversations and existing partnerships on food security in South Asia that are being brought together for an integrated approach.

Government, Industry, and Civil Society will spend two days unlocking next generation issues in South Asian agriculture while tackling the system as it exists today. In honor of Dr. Norman Borlaug, the forum will focus on innovation and collaboration as the driver of regional solutions to food insecurity and strengthening the agriculture value chain in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Pakistan.

The 50 Pact forum will close with the announcement of a series of time and investment-bound commitments made by attending stakeholders that will be monitored and coordinated by the BISA.

The 50 Pact forum is held just a day before the 2013 Technical workshop of the Borlaug Global Rust Initiative (BGRI). For more information visit BGRI 2013 technical workshop program and registration page. The 50 Pact symposium provides reduced registration fee to participants of both events.

The dialogue on global food security and role of wheat will continue in March 2014 during celebration of what would be Dr. Norman Borlaug's 100th Birthday and Wheat Summit in Mexico.

The Nobel Peace Prize
In 1970, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Dr. Norman Borlaug, with the Nobel Prize Committee concluding that, “more than any other single person of this age, he has helped to provide bread for a hungry world. We have made this choice in the hope that providing bread will also give the world peace…He has helped to create a new food situation in the world and who has turned pessimism into optimism in the dramatic race between population explosion and our production of food.”
