Proudly Hosted in New Brunswick, ranked as Canada’s largest exporter of seafood for 2012, with exports valued at $967 million.
This event ties in well with the Maritimes’ long and proud history of commercial fishing and working on the water. The Maritime region contains an increasingly viable fishing industry, reinforcing the important role of this event. A Billion-Dollar Industry.
Scotia-Fundy landings out-value those in the rest of the Maritime Provinces and Quebec combined. Landings last surveyed came to 311,305 tonnes and were worth $717 million. Aquaculture production was $268 million.
The Gulf Region is also a major contributor to the industry. Recent surveys pegged catches at 91,594 tonnes with an estimated value of $281 million. These waters account for approximately 15 per cent of the total catch of Canadian fisheries, and constitute one of the country’s most productive marine areas.

The commercial fisheries fleet in Atlantic region is huge. Boats range between 0 and 35 feet and right up to 100 feet. There are over 17,207 commercial fisheries vessels registered with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. These boats and their equipment are updated regularly to ensure profitability and safety.
