About the Fresno Food Expo
-In an effort to capitalize on the San Joaquin Valley’s most productive export oriented industry, the City of Fresno’s economic development strategy under the leadership of Mayor Ashley Swearengin is focused on finding innovative ways to help local companies in the food industry grow their business. As part of the City’s overall strategy, the Fresno Food Expo, a true regional food show, was developed to help grow our region’s food industry by introducing locally owned and headquartered food companies in the San Joaquin Valley to buyers from the retail, foodservice, and export industries in an effort to help expand their customer base.
In 2010 Mayor Swearengin and the City’s Local Business Initiatives developed the concept with the help of an industry based Advisory Committee drawing inspiration from the Fancy Food Show and the PMA, and in 2011 the City of Fresno, in partnership with MJR Creative Group, Cohen Communications and David Nalchajian, Inc. hosted the first annual Fresno Food Expo.
In 2011 the Fresno Food Expo featured 65 locally owned and headquartered food companies from the central San Joaquin Valley, served as a launch pad for 22 new products, 2 start-up companies and attracted over 175 grocery retail and foodservice buyers.
In 2012 the Fresno Food Expo featured 85 locally owned and headquartered food companies from the San Joaquin Valley, served as a launch pad for 31 new products, 2 start-up companies and attracted over 450 grocery retail and foodservice buyers.
