Introduction
The 28th International Food Service Trade Show

Fispal Food Service is Latin America’s largest trade show dedicated to presenting products and solutions for the whole food service sector.  The increasing purchasing power of the population, combined with the need for convenience due to longer work hours and commutes, will foster the growth of foodservice as not only a leisure activity, but also an everyday necessity.  In 2010, food service sales in Brazil totaled R$ 75 billion, a 16.5% increase from 2009. Approximately 60 million Brazilians eat meals outside their home daily, or 32% of the country’s population.  Brazilian’s currently spend 31% of their income on food outside the home, and this percentage is expected to continue to increase.

Food service operators spent a total of R$ 73.2 billion ($45.9 billion) in 2010, resulting in total sales of R$ 181.1 billion ($113.6 billion), and a total of 61.7 million food service transactions per day.

Breakdown of Brazilian food service channels, by total sales:
• Restaurants – 23%
• Bakeries – 15%
• Bars – 13%
• Fast Food – 12%
• Snack Bars – 11%
• Industrial Dining Halls – 7%
• Hotels – 4%
• Catering – 2%
• Others – 13%

With Brazil being host of the 2014 FIFA World Cup with games in 12 cities across the country, as well as Rio de Janeiro hosting the 2016 Olympic Games, increasing professionalization of foodservice is expected not only in these cities, but also in surrounding areas that will receive hundreds of thousands of tourists.  The state government of Rio de Janeiro has announced investments from 2010-2016 will reach $50 billion in an effort to prepare for the influx of visitors to these events.  Because of the influx of visitors to these events, the number of hotel rooms in Brazil is expected to grow by 30% by 2014.
